General Assembly Meeting of WATSON

We were exited to participate in the general assembly meeting of WATSON (18-19 September 2023). The event was held at the historic School of Architecture building of the National Technical University of Athens. IELab NTUA was represented by proffessor & lab head Nikos Panayiotou, teaching and research associate Sotiris Gayialis, and researcher Chariklia Pantiska. During the event , we had the chance to interact with other partners and discuss the latest developments within the WATSON project.

During the event , IELab NTUA presented the progress of the task related to analysis systems used to combat food fraud and, more specifically, the first results from interviewing supply chain actors

from farm, wholesale, primary and secondary processing to retail. During these interviews actors were asked about their experiences with existing fraud prevention systems, the shortcomings of such systems and their needs for improved systems.

Moreover, IELab NTUA prepared and discussed the plan for deploying the blockchain technology using smart contracts for tracking food throughout the supply chain. This technology will serve as the foundation for developing WATSON’s platform for data storage and use by different stakeholder groups.
